Doreen Trammell, Children & Outreach

I was born in Colorado and my dad moved a lot with the US Forest Service so I’ve lived in ski towns, cowboy towns and even on top of a mountain. Since I was five years old I wished we could move to civilization. Any city, anywhere!
While in college, I took a long hard road to finding a personal relationship with Jesus. (Ask me sometime about the amazing God stories in that journey!) At school I met my future hubby poo, Jim Trammell. I graduated with honors from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Jim and I got married and moved to the Washington DC area in 1989. Man, was that culture shock! Our favorite thing to do is spend time with our daughters, Melanie and Katelyn. They are fun, interesting, wonderful kids who love Jesus and are growing up to be amazing people.
My work history is a mixture. I started working in restaurants at the age of 15 because I was tired of being booked months in advance for babysitting! (Magic shows, ventriloquism and puppet shows tend to make you pretty popular.) I later worked for CSU running events for a hall of 900 students and ran leadership conferences for the campus. Later I helped train Campus Crusade students in apologetics and evangelism. After moving to the DC area, I worked for six years as a statistician for the Census Bureau managing multi million dollar surveys. Because I wanted a more meaningful job, I left Census and became a Creative Memories Consultant, which I have done for the last ten years. Because of God’s grace, I’ve helped 2000+ wonderful customers document their memories and currently help train 50 other women to do a similar business. Because of these wonderful folks, I’ve been in the highest ranks of the company and earned many exotic trips. (Which is good because I am a total travel freak!)
My passion is to connect people to God. For some reason, God constantly sends me people outside of the church who want to talk about spiritual things. God has also led me to do a variety of things for the local church (being a board member, starting ministries, being a personal support to various pastors, etc.) but most recently he has called me to be a Pastor of Children and Outreach. (Ask me about the journey to that decision – it’s another God story!)
I am constantly amazed that God has allowed me to serve him in this capacity. It is a big faith builder as every week the job is “impossible” and I ask God to send the ideas and the workers. Amazingly enough – he does! He is SO cool.
